| Kumbha
Mela. The most important religious festival of India, held every twelfth year at Allahabad
(Prayaga). On an auspicious date, chosen by astrolgers, milions of pilgrims converge and
take ritual bath at Triveni Sangam - the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and invisible
Sarasvati. Partial Kumbha Melas are held every third, sixt and ninth year of the Jupiter cycle at Hardwar, Nasik and Ujjain. The Kumbha Mela held at Hardwar (on Ganga) attracts huge groups of pilgrims from all over Northern India. |
